IT is a week of unwanted firsts for 1874 Northwich.

Runcorn Town came from behind to record a maiden victory against them with a late goal on Thursday.

Less than 48 hours later, West Didsbury & Chorlton repeated the trick.

On both occasions, a side managed by Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison deserved a reward.

An inspired first-half performance by goalkeeper Aaron Ashley kept the home team in the game on Saturday.

His save from Kazim Waite-Jackson’s free-kick was a warm up, and he reacted smartly to divert Ryan Jackson’s attempt around an upright.

He thwarted the same player after he rushed from his line shortly afterwards.

Sam Hind headed over from a corner, while Paul Connor’s strike brushed the woodwork on its way over.

There was enough time for Ashley to produce another stunning save before the break, stretching fully to turn away Waite-Jackson’s effort.

The visitors scored a goal their domination merited early in the second-half when Scott McGowan turned in Waite-Jackson’s low cross to increase his tally for the campaign to 36.

West’s recovery began on 68 minutes when former 1874 front man Tom Bailey sent an angled shot out of custodian Greg Hall’s reach after Ben Steer teed him up.

And the hosts were celebrating again when Ashley Woods burst into the 1874 area to find the net from a similar position to his teammate.

Jackson’s curling shot was wide of the target as Northwich attempted to rally, while Lanre Olapade had to be alert to cut out Connor’s cross with substitute Kyle Riley lurking.

West almost added to their lead when Steer’s attempt stuck a post following a counter-attack before Riley was thwarted in shooting stride by Olapade’s expertly-timed tackle.
