A MUCH-needed support service for men suffering from mental health issues is one step closer.

Sarah Kinder, from Winnington, ran in the Manchester Marathon to raise money for a charity set up in memory of a close friend who died almost a year ago to the day.

With a time of 4h 58mins, Sarah managed to raise £2,000 for OK2.

Set to launch in the autumn, OK2 is a self-help, information and guidance service that provides practical support for men, through shared experiences with their mental wellbeing.

Her friend Nick Evans, 43, was an ex-player and junior coach at Winnington Park Rugby Club.

Sarah said: “Nick is greatly missed by all of his friends and family, especially in the rugby community. “Any money I raise from this marathon will help to fund the set up of OK2.”

OK2 was established by two of Nick’s close friends, Matt Johnston and Martin Ross.

Matt said: “This is a cause that I’m passionate about. “I truly believe that the contribution by OK2 will make a muchneeded change to the emotional health and wellbeing of men in and around the Northwich area.

“It will fill a void that has been present for too long.” OK2 sessions will be open to all men, aged 18 and over, and will aim to give people an opportunity to develop a set of skills to help them deal with whatever life throws at them.

Martin added: “Sarah’s phenomenal achievement. has been a key step in the process of building a vital support network which will create a safety net and bridge the gap between men and access to local services.”
