FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house in Registry Close late last night.

Two fire engines from Northwich were sent to the house at 11pm after the occupants of the house reported seeing smoke coming from a gas fire.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said: “Firefighters were called and, removing the fireplace, they found that the timbers in the timber-framed property were burning.

“Water from a hose reel jet was applied to the burning wood and the loft space was also checked for any fire spread.

“Firefighters cut away plaster around the affected area to make sure the fire was completely out. Gas engineers were also called to attend.”
