AN animal rescue group set up by a Rudheath man is calling on residents to support their fundraising events.

Tails Animal Rescue is an organisation that over the past 10 years has been dedicated to finding safe and caring homes for animals in need of rescue.

They do not have a community centre yet, but their caring team of unpaid volunteers house the animals themselves until they can be found a loving new home.

Around seven volunteers rescue and care for stray and abandoned animals including several kittens recently found by the A556.

John Ashworth, full-time volunteer from James Street in Rudheath, said: “We do what we can to preserve life, it’s demanding work and it does require a full-time commitment, but we care for what we do, and we enjoy what we do.”

The group doesn't receive any funds from businesses so to raise money they run regular bingo nights at Rudheath Social Club every other month.

They also run an annual dog show which this year is being held at the Bowling Green Pub on Sunday, March 25. The show last year saw 100 dogs involved in the competition.

Both the bingo nights and dog show are free admission with the dog show requiring a small fee for anyone who wants their dog to participate.

Estelle Watts, a civil servant worker and volunteer, said: “The emphasis is on it being a fun dog show, providing the dogs with an opportunity to socialise.”

The group is always looking for new homes, but it tries to avoid rehoming to people who live near canals, rivers, main roads or rail tracks in the interest of animal safety.
