ORGANISERS of the annual Davenham Carnival have appealed to villagers to volunteer at this year’s event or risk losing it.
The Davenham Village Carnival is a popular event and one that brings together young and old in the area.
However, for the past few years, despite numbers of those attending increasing year on year, organisers have struggled to get enough volunteers to help out with the event, usually finding around five or six people to help in recent years.
This year the event is scheduled for June 9, but the trio of organisers, Sarah Gibbs, Beverley Roberts and Vicky Jarvis, say the carnival ‘simply cannot run’ without more help.
Sarah said: “This event has been a part of Davenham’s heritage and a lot of hard work has gone into resurrecting it these past few years. But year on year we struggle to rally help.
“The carnival is a self-funding community event, which gives to charity and local community projects. Please let’s see a little more of the community involved this year.
“We’re not asking for hours and hours of people’s time. Just a couple of hours a week will be a huge help.
“It would be great to see a community event be an event with the community involved.”
Sarah is also looking for people who would be willing to help out on the day this year, including jobs such as distributing programmes, running the bar and organising the raffle.
To enquire about how you can help email Sarah at sarahgibbs160808@gmail.com or message the Davanham Village Carnival Facebook page.
