A CARE home celebrated its first birthday in style at the weekend with a visit from Northwich’s mayor.

Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge visited Lostock Lodge, in Cheshire Business Park, on Saturday, January 13.

Residents and their families attended the event, and Mike Christianson, deputy manager at Lostock Lodge, told the Guardian that it was a great way to round off a successful year.

“We had a great turn-out and it was nice to celebrate the great year that we have had,” he said.

“During the year we have done lots of activities and things with the residents, and we’re looking forward to the next one.”

The care home has some big ambitions for 2018, and Mike is hoping to bring two special visitors to it in their special year.

“We are hoping to get a royal visit, and then we could rename the top floor ‘Royal View’.

“It would be amazing if we could get Prince Harry and Meghan Markle here in their wedding year.”

In their first year at Lostock Lodge residents enjoyed a number of trips out, including days at Blackpool, Llandudno and Chester Zoo, as well as events and activities on-site at the care home.

“The residents are really happy here and the staff seem happy too,” he said.

“We pride ourselves in trying to be different from other care homes.

“It’s more like a hotel than a care home.

“We really want to make sure everyone is happy here, and we give our residents freedom on what they want to do.”
