STAFF at Winsford Salt Mine supported the Mid Cheshire Foodbank with a generous donation of food, toiletries and household items to help families over the holiday period.

The Mid Cheshire Foodbank, supported by The Trussell Trust, provides three days of emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in Cheshire.

Employees from Compass Minerals came together to collect 20 boxes of items, the equivalent of 300kg. The boxes were provided by DeepStore, the company’s underground storage division.

Gordon Dunn, managing director at Compass Minerals, said: “We are always keen to help our local community. This is the third year we have donated to the Mid Cheshire Foodbank, and our employees continue to be extremely generous in their donations.”

In addition to supporting the Mid Cheshire Foodbank, Compass Minerals’ Charitable Giving Fund has supported other charities with monetary donations of £7,800.

The Winsford Salt Mine has given to the Royal British Legion, the North-West Air Ambulance Service, Cancer Research UK, Help for Heroes, Saint Luke’s Hospice, Changing Lives in Cheshire and the Salvation Army.

The company’s employees, families and friends, have also raised £2,100 for charities by organising and participating in a number of events.

Mike McAuley, chair of Compass Minerals’ charity committee in Winsford, said: “We are proud to have an active charity committee with employees who work closely with the local community.

“In addition to supporting the Mid Cheshire Foodbank, our employees have raised money through various fundraising events of their own, with all money raised from employee donations matched at 50 per cent by the company.”
