NORTHWICH residents have been showing their support to the town’s newest bar.

Baron’s Lounge in Witton Street, opened its doors on Saturday, December 9.

The micro-pub is the latest venture from Andy McKnight and Alison Ramsden, who run the Real Ale Shack in Warrington Market.

Following on from that success, the couple decided to open their newest bar in Northwich to help give the town’s night-time economy a boost.

“The initial seed was planted by one of Alison’s friends who lives in Northwich," Andy said.

"She was saying the night life wasn’t very good and they have spent all this money on Barons Quay.

“We came for a couple of weekends to research and spend time here. We spent a lot of time visiting other pubs and restaurants in the area.

“We didn’t just dive in, and it wasn’t just Northwich that we looked at. But Alison fell in love with that building, there’s something about it.”

So far punters have been clamouring to get inside Baron’s Lounge, with business booming since opening.

Andy revealed he inquired about opening the bar in Barons Quay, but was deterred by the high rents.

He feels he made the right choice and is delighted with the location.

“My original intention was to go in Barons Quay, but the units were too big and too damned expensive,” he said.

“Where we are is the next best thing. It may be better because we will have the footfall from Barons Quay and also have the footfall from the other side of the walkway.”

The new bar serves more than 12 real ales and real ciders on draft, as well as whiskies, gins and lagers.

Andy, a former electrician, said he wants to provide a place where people can go and enjoy some quality real ale in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The bar is hoping to open its extended seating area upstairs in early to mid-February. The new area will feature more seating and a games table.

The team also hope to roll out new food platters in the new-year. Options will include meat, veggie and seafood platters.

"An outside seating area is due to be installed in time for summer.
