THE Grange School in Northwich has been named as one of the best performing secondary schools in the north west.

The top performing schools in the north west have been revealed in Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2018.

The 25th edition of Parent Power identifies the 2,000 highest-achieving schools in the UK, ranked by their recent examination results.

Parent Power is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country’s best schools.

The rankings in the secondary school league tables are determined by the percentage of examination entries gaining A* to B grades at A-level this summer (which is given double weighting) and the percentage of entries returning A* and A grades at GCSE.

They are published several weeks ahead of the official Government tables for secondary school performance.

As well as assessment of all academic results on a school-by-school basis, Parent Power enables parents to compare the performance of a given school with other schools in the same town, local authority or nationally.

The Grange School been named in the latest list as the sixth best independent secondary school in the north west.

The Hartford-based school achieved 81.3 per cent A*-B at A-level and 77.8 per cent A*-A at GCSE. Its overall national rank is 69, up eleven places from 88 in 2016.

The Grange also achieved an impressive 100 per cent pass rate for this year's A-levels.

The highest ranking independent secondary school in the north west is Withington Girls' School in Manchester.

The highest ranking state school is Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, which has also been named The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year.
