AN 11-YEAR-OLD who raised £85,000 for charity after a lifesaving operation has received the British Citizen Youth Award.

Ted McCaffery, who attends The Grange School in Hartford, began fundraising for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital after undergoing open heart surgery.

The Year six pupil initially wanted to raise enough money to replace a broken television at the hospital, but has since gone on to raise more than £85,000.

For his efforts, Ted was nominated for a British Citizen Youth Award.

The British Citizen Youth Award in association with Specsavers, are designed to recognise the individual endeavours of young people who positively impact their communities, help charities or undertake exceptional activities in support of others.

Ted, from Warrington, travelled to the Palace of Westminster to receive his award as part of a show hosted by Diversity choreographer and television personality, Ashley Banjo.

Speaking at the awards, Ashley said: “What a fantastic way to recognise these young people that have made a difference to their communities up and down the UK.

“These inspirational young people are making a difference and encouraging other young people to do the same.”
