A HEADTEACHER who stepped in to help a Winsford primary school while juggling her role in Northwich has reflected on her first term.

Annette Williams was appointed executive head teacher at Grange Community Primary School in the summer after its then head retired.

She heard in the summer that the school would be without a head teacher for the new school term.

Ms Williams, who has been the head teacher of Barnton Primary School for a decade, has previously helped out St Chad’s in Winsford and another primary school in Halton.

Since taking on the new role she has been keen to implement some changes at the school.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity,” she said. “It’s a chance to support a school doing very good work with the children they have.

“I’ve been given a really good welcome, by the entire community, the children, parents and staff. It’s a really exciting time of change.

“The children are already commenting on the new learning environment. We have introduced a new curriculum.

“It’s very text-rich with lots of quality books. We’re giving children opportunities to enjoy all the areas of the curriculum.

“We’ve also introduced a new programme of after school clubs that the children are really enjoying on a daily basis.”

Ms Williams is keen to carry across the same ethos that is implemented in Barnton.

She said: “At Barnton, we believe that every child has something they are fabulous at doing. What we want is for every child to reach their full potential.”

So far she has been hugely impressed with the attitudes of the Winsford pupils.

“The children are really enthusiastic and well-motivated,” she said. “They are really keen to learn.

“They full of energy, full of life and really want to do well.

She added: “I want to make sure the children have the best opportunity to make the most of their progress to reach their potential.

“We want them to know learning as an adventure.”

Ms Williams said her new staff have also been very welcoming.

And despite being present at the school on a daily basis, she said her role at Barton is unaffected.
