LION Salt Works is set to be transformed into a winter wonderland next month.

From Tuesday, December 5, to Sunday, December 10, the historic site will become a ‘sparkling’ traditional English Christmas market, with more than 20 market stalls.

The market will feature gift ideas, festive food, a choir and the chance to see Santa in his log cabin – while on the Friday and Saturday night, live music will be performed by band The Assets.

Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “This sparkling Christmas Market is a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season and one that won’t break the bank.

“It is designed to bring together all the elements that make Christmas so magical – like carol singers, bell ringers and a visit to Father Christmas, along with a new twist like the chance to enjoy some live contemporary acoustic music.

“This combination of the traditional and modern was such a success at the ‘Live and Local’ event in the Summer that it was felt that this winning combination should be tried again at Christmas.

“This is a wonderful line up of activities in a wonderful setting. I hope everyone comes along and enjoys being part of the festive spirit.”

The showcase is being staged by the museum and Marston resident Iain Stead, who is bringing his professional skills as an event organiser to the fair.

The market will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm on each of the six days, and admission is free.

Children can also ride on a miniature steam engine for a £1 donation and enjoy Christmas tales in the ‘Story Box’, while visitors can see the Christmas Igloo – made from 400 recycled four-pint milk bottles – and enjoy Lion Salt Works’ shop and cafe.

Handbell ringers will also perform on the Saturday afternoon, while the Rivendell Choir will sing carols on the Sunday afternoon.

Tickets for the evening concerts cost £25, including food and drink, and are available by calling 07737 185215. For more information visit westcheshiremuseums.co.uk or call 01606 275066.
