A CHIEF executive from a Northwich business braved Hurricane Ophelia by sleeping rough to raise money for a homeless charity.

Emma Elston, chief executive of Northwich-based repair and refurbishment company, UK Container Maintenance (UKCM), joined other senior execs on the street on Monday, October 16, as part of the CEO Sleepout.

Braving the ferocious winds of Hurricane Ophelia, Emma raised more than £2500 by sleeping outdoors at Emirates Old Trafford, lying side-by-side with her sister Lydia Causer of Thrust Creative, and other fundraisers to raise awareness and funds for homeless people in Manchester.

Emma said: “The night of the Sleepout fell in the midst of the hurricane, so it was windy and very bleak, but there was great camaraderie between all the fundraisers, and at least we had our warm beds to go home to.

“I can’t even imagine what it must be like to face this each and every day.

“The whole experience was very humbling and my sister Lydia and I feel really honoured to have been able to take part. A big thank you to all who donated.”

The proceeds from the CEO Sleepout from will be split between LCCC Foundation, MASH, Mustard Tree and Church Housing Trust.

Andy Preston, founder of CEO Sleepout charity, said: “Emma showed real leadership credentials by getting involved and giving up her own bed in order to help others.

“If more people follow her example and join our sleepouts we’ll be able to do even more good work in Manchester and other cities.”
