FAMILY and friends of a Northwich care home resident travelled from the other side of the world to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Lillian Warrington, resident of Crossways Care Home in Lostock Gralam, celebrated her 100th birthday at the home and was joined by three generations of her family, including her three children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews, with some travelling from as far away as Australia to attend the party.

A spokesman for Crossways said: “The home was festooned with balloons and bunting, and when the guests arrived, they were treated to a glass of Pimm’s - Lillian’s favourite tipple.

"Then everyone gathered around to watch an emotional slideshow of photographs from Lillian’s life, while staff at the home served up a delicious buffet.

“Later on, vocal duo ‘Heart and Soul’ got everyone up and dancing with Motown classics and 50s hits.

"The birthday girl received lots of gifts and flowers, and she took particular delight in opening her 100th birthday card from The Queen.”

Lillian was born in Birkenhead in 1917 and started working when she was just 14.

During the Second World War, she worked in the Shell Oil refinery and dispensed oil to tanks and boats on the Manchester Ship Canal.

In 1937, she married her husband, Danny, and they enjoyed a happy marriage until Danny passed away in 2002. Nowadays, she enjoys relaxing and socialising with other residents.

Lillian said: “I never thought I would reach 100, so I feel very lucky to be able to celebrate my 100th birthday surrounded by so many people who are dear to me.

"Thank you to the staff at Crossways for organising my party. It was very special.”
