THE Weaverham Unit of St John Ambulance has received recognition for the work they do in the community.

David Briggs, Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, presented the volunteers the Gretton Watson Trophy after coming runners up in the annual competition.

The Lord-Lieutenant thanked all the St John volunteers in Cheshire for their hard work and commitment to ensuring that no-one should die or suffer from lack of a trained First Aider nearby.

The adults won the winners trophy, the Leverhulme Trophy, on the seventieth anniversary of its first presentation in 1947 to encourage the St John members to achieve a high standard of competence to ensure the best service possible to the public at events throughout the county.

The same applies today with even higher standards to use modern equipment such as defibrillators safely and effectively.

Debbie Gillett, the unit manager, has developed her team into a group which provides first aid cover at events throughout Cheshire and are setting high standards of training to ensure the wellbeing of casualties.

To help volunteers in St John Ambulance Cheshire look after the sick and injured at events the Mark Master Masons in Cheshire have kindly donated a new mobile Treatment Centre. This vehicle is part of a £3.2 million donation which sees a new vehicle in each county.
