THE work of young artists was celebrated after being selected to feature in Hartford Civic Society’s 2018 calendar.

Young people in Hartford were tasked to draw a Hartford landmark for the annual village calendar. Previously the competition was photography based.

The Civic Society selected three winners from each of the age categories – up to six, seven to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18, and revealed them at their annual open afternoon on October 7.

Heather Pinchien, from Hartford Civic Society, said: “It was lovely receiving these entries and to see how the children view their village.

“It was very difficult to judge as all the entries were good, judging was totally anonymous all the judges knew were the children’s ages.”

This year Hartford Civic Society also tasked young people to design a front cover for the calendar.

Anna Smith, 10, produced the winning entry. Her drawing of St. John’s Church on a sunny day was also selected for one of the calendar months.

Her sister, Leah, eight, was selected as the overall winner of the 7 to 11 age category.

Overall winners from each age group won a cash prize.

Luke Faulkner-Ellis, 12, produced the artwork selected to be produced as Christmas cards.

Heather said: “The open event was a great success, 10 of the winners and their families were in attendance, they all seemed to have a really good time and the parents we spoke too all said how proud they were.

“Some of the older residents of Hartford commented how nice it was to see children’s drawings and all had different favourites.”

The calendars and Christmas cards will be on sale at the Hartford Victorian Fayre at Hartford Civic Society’s stand, on December 2.

The calendars will also be on sale at Littlers butchers and Hartford Civic Society is in talks to have it on sale in the Post Office.

“We expect the calendars to sell out quickly, the previous two calendars have sold out,” Heather said.
