MIDDLEWICH Cricket Club welcomed Ashes legends as they took a break from a charity bike ride.
Tim Bresnan, Marcus Trescothick, Geraint Jones and a host of other well-known cricketers attended the Haddon Field club on October 14 for refreshments on day three of the Big Bike Ride, a 362 mile cycle across the UK.
The riders had climbed the hills around Buxton and Bollington and arrived in Middlewich in three groups separated by 20 minute intervals from 3.20pm.
Ian Corrigan, Middlewich Cricket Club secretary, said: “The players took time out to sign autographs and bats and pose for numerous photographs.
“They were a real inspiration to the junior players who are even more determined to develop their skills and continue their enjoyment of cricket.
“It really tested our committee’s resourcefulness and a human chain was soon formed to make full use of the tea urn and two kettles.
“Platefuls of flapjacks were soon being dished out to properly feed and refresh the riders before their journey onwards to Crewe.
“As a token of their gratitude the bike ride team handed over a certificate, signed bat, and glass trophy to commemorate the visit.”
