NORTHWICH Guardian sports writer Andrew Simpson has been shortlisted in the prestigious o2 Media Awards North West.

Andrew faces competition from the Lancashire Telegraph and News & Star in the sports journalist of the year category.

Northwich's sister title, the Knutsford Guardian, has been shortlisted for two awards for its coverage of George Osborne becoming a newspaper editor and quitting as Tatton MP.

Nicola Green, Director of Corporate Affairs at O2 said: “The volume and standard of entries this year has been unprecedented. Judges had the monumental task of selecting a shortlist from hundreds of exceptional portfolios. We want to thank all those, who by entering the competition each year, continue to make an O2 Award so highly prized in the media industry. We look forward to announcing the best of the best at the awards night in Manchester.”

The O2 Media Awards presentation evening will take place on November 9 at Manchester’s Ethiad Stadium.

BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin will host the event alongside Dave Massey from O2.
