POLICE officers who were assaulted by two teenage girls in Rudheath have been awarded for bravery.

At 11.25pm on August 25, 2016, police received a report of a disturbance in the Laburnum Road area of Rudheath involving two girls aged 16 and 17 years old acting anti-socially.

On arrival officers found the girls to be violent and volatile and both were arrested for being drunk and disorderly and assaulting police officers.

Officers were verbally and physically assaulted by the two girls.

This included in Rudheath itself, the Constabulary’s Custody Suite and at Leighton Hospital when colleagues from the NHS were trying to help the girls.

On September 19, PC Alan Broadhurst, PC Sophie Bailey, PC Andy Mullin and PC Kevin Anderson were presented with an award at Northwich Police Station for their bravery and professionalism.

PC Rowan Burt also received an award but was not present on the day.

Chief Supt Matt Welsted, Cheshire Police’s lead for Local Policing, said: “Despite the circumstances the officers acted professionally and put the safety of the public, and the two girls themselves, above their own.

“They acted with integrity, care and compassion and I am very proud of them.”

No further action was taken in relation to their arrests but they were referred to the local youth offending services.
