STEVE Lloyd won’t accept his players have turned around their fortunes until Barnton start to put points on the board.

The Villagers registered a first victory of the campaign when they eliminated Penistone Church from the FA Vase in midweek.

However they have failed to collect maximum points from seven previous attempts in the North West Counties League’s Premier Division.

“That is our priority,” said the manager.

“We’ve two huge league games ahead of us this week, both of them against opponents who are considered to be among the contenders to win the title.

“A win on Tuesday is a starting point, and we enjoyed it.

“However it doesn’t mean that we’ve turned a corner.”

The Villagers will include goalkeeper Robert Cooke, recruited earlier this week from Whitchurch, in their squad for a trip to City of Liverpool tomorrow.

They expect to be greeted by opponents still raw from a 5-1 hammering at home to Runcorn Linnets last time out.

Lloyd added: “We must be prepared for a battle, and to use the spirit we showed [against Penistone] as a template.

“There are lads coming back to fitness, and the benefit of being able to bring somebody like Chris Bandell off the bench was obvious on Tuesday.

“His impact was terrific, and he was unlucky not to start the game.”

Bandell and George Webster are both unavailable this weekend, although wide man Patrick Hamid returns.
