THE town's top tourist attractions celebrated mid Cheshire's rich history during this year's Heritage Open Days event.

Anderton Boat Lift, Lion Salt Works and Weaver Hall Museum hosted a number of free activities and exhibitions from Thursday, September 7, to Sunday, September 10.

More than a dozen Northwich sites took part in the annual event

Graham Wood, duty manager of the Canal and River Trust Charity, Anderton Boat Lift, said: “It has been another fun Heritage Open Day Weekend.

“It is always an important fixture in our calendar because it gives us an opportunity to showcase the Lift’s unique history as the world’s first successful boat lift .

“Our free tours to the top of lift were fully booked and visitors marvelled at the size of the Lift and the precision of its Victorian engineering.

“Other visitors enjoyed the free Saltscape performances on Saturday as well as the ingenious performances of Typoon and the Pedal Players as they retold heritage stories.

“Our younger visitors enjoyed playing on our new £50,000 play area as well as marvelling at Laurence Marshall and his One Man Band.”
