HARTFORD’s Film Season will return for its 11th season this month despite its organiser wondering whether to call time due to the arrival of the Odeon in Barons Quay.

The new winter film season begins with a screening of Dunkirk at the Grange Theatre on Tuesday, September 26, for a 7.30pm start.

Trish Parker, who runs the Film Club Season, told the Guardian she considered making the 10th season the last.

She said: “I thought now was a good time to go with the Odeon arriving. But people were coming up to me after the last one saying, you will carry on won’t you?

“They enjoy coming here. To look at it positively, it’s a good atmosphere. People feel safe there. Old ladies can come there, it’s handy for them. It’s almost like a nice, family atmosphere.

“I was waiting for someone to say, well Odeon is here now. We’ve had a good 10 years, but that didn’t happen.”

The first movie of the 11th season is Christopher Nolan’s summer hit, Dunkirk.

She said: “I think it is very relevant at the moment, looking back at the First and Second World Wars.

“I think it will be good for youngsters to see as well. It’s almost like looking at history, although a dramatised version of it.

“It keeps as close to it as it can, from what I’ve read. It should be fascinating.”

Trish also revealed Victoria and Abdul, starring Judy Dench, will be shown at the theatre in October.

She also hopes to be able to show Lion, starring Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman.

Lion received six Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards.

“I couldn’t get that last time. That is supposed to be a really good film,” Trish said.

It is unclear whether the popular film club will return for a 12th season.

For now, the show must go on.

“We will take it one year at a time and see how it goes,” Trish said.

Thanks to great audience support last season, £1,800 profit from ticket sales was donated to Cheshire charities.

Tickets for Dunkirk cost £5 and can be bought from Hartford Dry Cleaners and Elson News.
