THE daughter of a former Northwich mayor and head teacher who recent died has paid tribute.

Doug Myerscough, was mayor of Northwich in 1983, died on August 8, aged 96.

Mr Myerscough is the father of current Northwich Mayor, Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge.

He was the head teacher of Rudheath Secondary Modern and oversaw its transition to a High School.

In a tribute to her father, Cllr Myerscough-Illidge said: “He was an inspirational head who brought vitality back into education.

“He was the first head in Cheshire to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and many boys were successful in achieving Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

“He believed in educating both in and out of the classroom which gave many boys and girls the opportunity to reach their potential in different fields other than academically.

“Before retired in 1979 successfully changed the school into a High School, which he believed was right and fair for our children.

“Doug carried on with a very active public life serving the community, youth and residents of Northwich whilst becoming Mayor in 1983.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced and publicised in the next few weeks.
