THE mayor of Northwich was among the honoured guests for the official opening of Mike Amesbury’s Weaver Vale constituency office.

The Labour MP secured a clear victory in May’s General Election, winning a decisive 51 per cent of the vote, and reclaiming the seat for the Labour Party.

Guests from across the borough joined Mr Amesbury, his staff and their families as the ribbon was cut to officially open the new office.

Some of the guests included Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge, mayor of Northwich, Cllr Alan Lowe, mayor of Halton, David Keane, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire and a number of charity leaders.

Based at the Halton 5 building next to Runcorn Shopping City, the vast majority of Mr Amesbury’s staff will be based in the constituency as opposed to Westminster.

Speaking at the opening, Cllr Myerscough-Illidge said: “I’m so delighted to have Mike as our Labour MP.

“May he have great success in the future to give us a fairer country to live in because at the moment it is very unfair.

“We will support him in any way we can in Northwich and in Weaver Valle.”

Mr Amesbury said his focus will now be standing up for the residents of Weaver Vale.

Mike said: “With a professional team I’ve got in place, that have good strong local connections throughout the local constituency, it’s enabled me to get out and about and hit the ground running and we shall build on this.

“We’ve dealt with hundreds of cases so far from all over the constituency, from Runcorn to Rudheath, Northwich to Frodsham.”
