A DERELICT former Jewish school, which has been a repeated target for vandals for six years, will be demolished next month.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has granted permission for the former Delamere Forest School, in Norley, to be demolished between Thursday, September 14 and Monday, September 25.

The site will be cleared for developer Crabtree Homes to build 16 homes – including four affordable homes.

In its planning statement, Crabtree Homes said: "[The development] will deliver a choice and variety of housing types in an attractive location which people aspire to live.

"The site is within a sustainable location and represents sustainable development."

Delamere Forest School, which was set up in 1921 for Jewish children with special educational needs, closed its doors in July 2011 – one year after a second facility had opened closer to the large Jewish community in north Manchester.

Since then vandals have repeatedly ransacked the derelict site.

Copper wiring was taken from the building in 2012, while vandals caused an estimated £80,000 worth of damage to the site in March this year.

Most recently, copper piping was stolen and facilities were smashed up inside the building two months ago.
