OULTON Park’s batsman amassed a total that proved beyond Upton’s reach as the Division One leaders ran out comfortable victors.

Openers Martyn East (43) and Danny Leech (44) put on 64 runs for the first wicket as they posted 220-5, while Matt Jamieson (62) and Ben Gibbon (52no) added 89 for the fifth later on.

Upton were dismissed for 129 in reply, with Chris McArthur (46) alone in offering resistance before a defiant innings from Darren Warburton (26) at the bottom of the order.

Andrew Hards (3-29) and Matt Parkinson (3-33) again combined effectively, supported by spinner Muhammad Kashif (2-22).

Davenham bowled out visiting Widnes to extend a winning sequence in to three matches as they continue their pursuit of the men from Little Budworth.

Chasing a target of 238 to win, the away side succumbed for 177 after a 50 from Marcus Fourie (53) had given them hope.

However he was dismissed by Stephen Bliss (2-34), while pace-man Ben Gough (4-58) and captain Dan Hancock (2-28) also weighed in.

They stay second in the table, 22 points clear of third-placed Marple.

Davenham had totalled 237-7 after being put in, recovering from a slow start when leading run-scorer Sam Hunt (77) contributed a fourth half-century of the campaign.

He enjoyed support from James Loveridge (40) before Chris Hornby (23), Ryan Blackie (22no) and Hancock (15no) improved the home team’s tally late on.

Danny Moore returned figures of 4-93 for Widnes.

James Espley took 7-46 for Urmston as they inflicted on back-markers Weaverham an 11th defeat in 13 matches this term.

The Russets fell for 133 thanks to his efforts, with Kevin Douglas (46) and captain Ian Eaton (33) – two of Espley’s victims – the pick of their batsmen.

Urmston made it to their target in the 26th over, recording a comfortable nine-wicket win after skipper Calum Turner (85no) and Max Buckley (36no) had guided them to 139-1.

George McCormick (1-31) took the only wicket to fall.

Northwich bowlers endured a difficult afternoon at Moss Farm against promotion-hopefuls Romiley, who ran up 268-5.

Mohammad Ajmal (28 off 19 balls) struck five fours and a six in a quick-fire innings down the order, but by then the home team’s focus was on avoiding defeat.
