THE reopening of Acton Swing Bridge has been delayed.
The 84-year old bridge, which carries the busy A49 road over the River Weaver Navigation, was due to open today following a six-month, £1.5 million repair project.
However, this has now been delayed by one week, and is now scheduled to reopen by Wednesday, July 26.
A spokesman for the Canal and River Trust, which cares for the bridge, said the delay was due to ‘unforeseen issues with the road surfacing’.
The spokesman said: “The reopening of Acton Bridge Swing Bridge to two lanes of traffic has unfortunately been delayed by up to a week.
“The bridge was due to reopen on Wednesday 19 July after a six month, £1.5 million repair programme but due to unforeseen issues with the road surfacing, the completion date has had to be put back by several days.
“This means the likely reopening date is now Wednesday, 26 July, although contractors are working hard to bring this forward.”
