A FAMILIAR tale of woe afflicted Barnton’s batsmen as their side suffered a 103-run defeat at Stockport Georgians on Saturday.

They were dismissed cheaply, for just 109, despite skipper Simon Hancock shuffling the order in an attempt to solve a problem that has dogged them all season in Division One games.

Spinner James Locke (4-17) prevented them gathering any momentum, despite Callum Doyle (32 off 20 balls), Peter Cook (18) and Adam Garrod (17) batting patiently.

Earlier, Stockport had posted 212-5 with Andrew Splatt (78) scoring a half-century. Pat Flanagan took 2-64 for the visitors.

Haslington remain unbeaten following a 72-run success against Middlewich, who continue to prop up the table.

They men from Haddon Field bowled out their hosts for 215 thanks to a collective bowling effort led by Stephen Parry (4-59), Kieran Boyle (3-49) and Denton Brock (3-54).

Behind the stumps, wicket-keeper Nick Gill held on to three catches and claimed the stumping of danger man Joel Unsworth (71).

Middlewich were dismissed for 143 in reply, with a 53-run partnership for the third wicket between Parry (40) and James Cornford (23) a highlight.

Toby Mullins praised the killer instinct of his Kingsley side after they staged a late rally to beat back-markers Bunbury – a 12th successive win for the pace-setters.

The skipper claimed the prize wicket of Matt Burrows (82), precipitating a surge in which Adrian Burden (3-44) and Hayden Lanza (4-51) played starring roles to dismiss the 10-man hosts for 162.

“We looked out of it with five overs left,” said Mullins.

“But we showed real ruthlessness.”

He had also contributed 72 to the visitors’ 206-5, supported by Ed Leneghan (45) and Lanza (49no off 46 balls).

Oakmere extended a winning sequence to four matches after cruising to a nine-wicket victory at home to Chelford.

They skittled the visitors for 87 at Overdale Lane, where captain Craig Phelan (5-9 off four overs) ripped through the bottom order after CJ van der Walt (2-24) and Mike Cushion (2-28) had made an early breakthrough.

Adrian Stubbs (67no off 50 balls) did the rest single-handedly as the hosts reached their target in the 22nd over.

The sun blazed down upon the picturesque, postage-stamp Prestbury ground on Saturday, where visiting Winnington Park were burnt by a second defeat in a row.

Having won the toss and deciding to bowl, they enjoyed an early breakthrough thanks to Phil Amatiello (2-56).

The evergreen Iain Connor found form too, and went on to be Park's star turn with excellent figures of 4-49.

However Aussie Tremayne Ryder turned the match, racing to a blistering 56 from 34 balls as the hosts’ innings closed on 199-8.

Park were knocked over for 97, with Martin Evans (41 off 39 balls) the only batsman to withstand the heat as Ryder (4-21) and Gurvinder Singh (5-33) did the damager.

“We underperformed,” rued Alec Butcher, Winnington’s captain.

“A few errors in the field were compounded by loose shots later when we were in the middle.”

Hartford celebrated a maiden victory in Division Five after edging hosts Mossley during a low-scoring encounter.

They sent back their hosts for 84 after winning the toss, Rob Whittle (4-23), Gopal Raju (3-35) and Praveen Pattisapu (2-23) joining forces.

The men from Grange Park made it to their target after Sathish (21no) and Richard Buckley (11no) eased them from danger after coming together at 63-7.
