ST Luke’s Hospice is sending out a clear message to all residents in mid Cheshire this month.

Throughout July, the hospice is joining forces with national charity Hospice UK and other hospices across the country to launch the Open Up campaign.

Its aim is to widen access to end of life care among communities which are more vulnerable to missing out on it, and to ensure every resident knows about the vital care and support they can receive.

Amy Magee, campaign and donor development manager at St Luke’s, told the Guardian: “Because our services are so incredibly diverse, people simply don’t know that we can help them.

“So for us, the Open Up campaign is a fantastic chance to highlight the varied care we offer and encourage people to ask their GP or healthcare professional for a referral to St Luke’s.

“If someone is unsure if we can help, I’d encourage them to call us and have a chat, if we can help you, your family or your carers in any way we will do.”

Compassionate care from St Luke’s can play a vital role in easing people’s suffering, providing comfort and relieving considerable pressures faced by families.

The Open Up hospice care campaign is designed to raise awareness of this among all people in mid Cheshire, regardless of their sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability or illness.

“Every day we see the positive impact that our care has on people and their families in mid and south Cheshire,” matron Wendy Field added.

“We want to ensure that everyone has access to hospice care when they need it and are very proud to be a part of this campaign.”

Hospices like St Luke’s provide wide-ranging support for terminally ill people, including medical care, spiritual and emotional support and complementary therapies to promote wellbeing.

They also provide families with practical and emotional support, such as bereavement counselling.
