Artists’ work to take over town for Northwich Art Trail

In its sixth year, the Northwich Art Trail will include more than 100 pieces of art from 46 artists will be on display accross the town.

Every Friday and Saturday in July from 11am to 4pm, work will be displayed in the Northwich Plaza.

The event is run by Visual Arts Cheshire with support from the DAN community and will be launched on Saturday, July 1 by Mike Amesbury, the newly-elected Weaver Vale MP.

Alan Carr, chairman of Visual Arts Cheshire, said: “You don’t have to be an artist to appreciate and enjoy what we’ve done with the Art Trail.

“I like watching people go through town with the flyer in their hands looking to see where the next shop is.”

Rather than the art pieces being hosted in one space, the artwork will be presented through the windows of 30 participating retailers in the town centre, some of which include Jack Gee Cycles in Witton Street and Curtain Magic near Bull Ring.

A leaflet is available to guide people through the Art Trail with details of the venues and the participating artists and can be picked up from the Art Shop, the library, the information centre, the Memorial Court and most of the participating stores.

One of the participating artists, Abby Browne, has three pieces of art that will be displayed throughout the month.

‘Aliens’ will be set up in the Plaza, ‘Michael Jackson’ in The Salty Dog pub and ‘Emerge’ in Optisavers.

She said: “Most of my paintings are about experimenting. I try to add my own emotions to the picture to give it aesthetic qualities.

“I feel art isn’t an embodiment of the artist, it’s their sub-conscious so it’s going much deeper.”

Prizes are up for grabs for the ‘Best Artwork’ and two runners up, voted for by the art historian Adrian Sumner.

Mr Carr, speaking on behalf of VAC, thanked Phil Bower from the Northwich Art Shop for his generous donation of the first prize and donating all of his shop window space to Art Trail.
