TWO lanes were closed on the southbound M6 this morning due to a vehicle fire north of Knutsford.
Cheshire Police and Highways England officers attended the incident between junction 20 at Lymm and 19 at Knutsford.
The blaze caused build ups past the Lymm interchange and to junction 21, which began to ease after the incident was cleared around 11.15am.
Police advised drivers to avoid the area if possible.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 10.16am.
A spokesman said: "We are attending a car fire on the M6 southbound, junction 20 to 19.
"Crews, two wearing breathing apparatus, are currently using two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze."
