ROSEBANK School in Barnton is holding a fundraising comedy night featuring John Williams, author of My Son’s Not Rainman.

The hour-long comedy show, which has been featured on Radio 4 and BBC Online, will take place on Friday, June 23, at 7.30pm, with tickets priced at £10.

It focuses on John’s son, known to audiences as ‘The Boy’, who has autism.

It premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013, and since then John has been touring in theatres, comedy clubs and various fundraisers across the country.

The stand-up comedian said: “I used to always talk about family life on stage, but there was one crucial bit of our story I always missed out, and that was the bit about my son having autism and cerebral palsy.

“Yet despite his diagnosis, and maybe even sometimes because of it, there is joy in our world. That's all this is about.

“It isn't a story about autism – it's a story about a young boy who happens to have autism, there's a difference.”

Friday’s show wants to raise further awareness of autism, while showing the humour and joy that it brings to a family.

Funds will go towards the school and the Cheshire West and Chester branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS).

The evening includes a licensed bar and Indian food will be available.
