DANNY Leech was at the crease on Tuesday when Cheshire clinched a 10-wicket win against Cornwall in the Unicorns Championship.

The Oulton Park opener was unbeaten on 13, striking three boundaries, as he helped guide the hosts to 44-0 with Calum Rowe (28no) at Nantwich.

It put behind them the disappointment of exiting the Unicorns Knockout Trophy at Hertfordshire the previous week.

“We didn’t look back from the first morning,” reflected captain Lee Dixon.

“There were some great individual performances, but everyone gelled together and it genuinely was a team effort.”

A foundation for victory had been laid on the opening day, when the visitors were dismissed for 208 after reaching 128-2 at lunch.

Jack White took 5-42, supported by Leek professional Wayne White (3-27), while Brad Wadlan (101) contributed a hard-earned ton.

Cheshire closed on 140-2, Leech scoring 11, before going on to amass 400 all out on Monday.

Rowe (89) and Luke Robinson (94), playing at his home club’s ground, were their leading scorers while Will Evans struck a quick-fire 77 further down the order.

They then knocked over the away side again for 235.

Opener Adrian Noott (90) and Adam Hodgson (34) added 94 runs for the sixth wicket after coming together at 71-5.

That left Cheshire requiring a small total to secure maximum points, which they duly did inside 10 overs.

A trip to Devon, who suffered a narrow five-run reverse at Oxfordshire, awaits in their next fixture at Sidmouth on Sunday week.

Dixon added: “Devon are strong, but we’ll take the confidence gained from this game down there with us.”
