MORE than 150 people came together on Saturday to honour the memory of Jo Cox.

Rudheath and Witton together invited residents to Grozone Community Garden to celebrate the Great Get Together and the Big Lunch.

The Great Get Together is a national event inspired by the late MP Jo Cox to bring neighbourhoods together to celebrate all that they have in common.

Together with the Big Lunch by the Eden Project, they aim to encourage communities to share ideas, skills and resources.

Labour MP Jo Cox died last June after being shot and stabbed in her Batley and Spen constituency.

Katy Sneyd, the community engagement officer for Rudheath and Witton Together, who sponsored the event, said: “We had wonderful weather and an amazing turn out.

“The event showcased Grozone’s beautiful gardens to many residents who didn’t even know that it existed.

“We were very lucky to have Chef David in the kitchen making fabulous food from donations from Tesco – the chocolate bread and butter pudding was a particular hit, as well as pizza’s, soup and fruit kebabs.

“The crowds were entertained by The Gus Glynn Band and we even had a camp fire and toasted marshmallows.”

Members from Transition Northwich also gave away unwanted items on their Giving Table and transformed old books into hedgehogs on their making table.

Beth Barlow from Transition Northwich said “We put an appeal out for old bikes and we must have had about a dozen donated.

“BJ and Barry fixed them up during the afternoon and one lady told us how grateful she was that she could go away with a free bike at the end of the day.”

Andy Martin, project manager for Grozone said: “It was amazing to see so many old friends and new faces.

“It’s always great to hear people say that they walk past the place all the time or they didn’t even know that we existed but they’ll definitely be back again.”
