THE Weaverham community came together on Saturday in memory of Jo Cox, the MP who was murdered last year.

The community picnic, which was held at St Bede’s Church, was part of ‘The Great Get Together’, a national weekend of celebrations in memory of the late MP.

More than 100 organisations held events around the country over the weekend, which was in partnership with The Big Lunch.

Prior to the picnic, guests were treated to a fundraising concert for the aid agency CAFOD.

Three choirs from Northwich took part in the concert, which was held at St Bede’s Church. The concert featured a variety of music, including pieces from musicals.

Guests were treated to music from St Bede’s Church Choir, St Wilfrid’s School Choir, and St Bede’s School choir, who are all from the newly-merged parish of St John Vianney.

CAFOD’s aim is to equip people living in extreme poverty with the skills and opportunities needed to live with dignity, support their families and give something back to their communities.

The money raised by the Northwich community will go to supporting CAFOD’s work with partners in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East to fight poverty and injustice.
