A ‘BIG Feed’ event is set to be held at Winsford Library to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding.

Pippa Caldwell, infant feeding co-ordinator at the East Cheshire Trust, told the Guardian that Winsford has ‘really poor’ breastfeeding rates, and an event on Friday, June 30, aims to highlight the benefits of ditching the bottle.

Pippa said: “We want to just raise the profile of breast feeding in the area. Winsford has really poor breastfeeding rates but also as a nation, we have the worst breastfeeding rates in the world.

“It’s really important – there are all kinds of health benefits for both mother and baby. We want to just raise awareness and let people know what they are, and then at least they can make an informed decision.”

The event will run from 12.30pm to 4.40pm and will feature health professionals, mums and midwives, all sharing their views and experiences.

It will coincide with National Breastfeeding Week.
