FUN runners are set to provide a £1,500 boost to the Dementia UK charity.

Each year Comberbach Fete committee organises a fun run in Marbury Park, with money raised being donated to the Rose Queen’s nominated charity for that year.

The 2017/18 Rose Queen is Mae Ashford, who will be crowned on fete day.

“Mae has chosen Dementia UK as her charity to raise funds for because her dad’s nan suffered with dementia, which had a huge impact on his family,” said Comberbach Fete secretary James Powlson.

“She also believes there should be more awareness of the associated disorders and how Dementia UK can help those affected, including the individuals’ families.”

This year’s fun run was held on May 21 at Marbury Park and there was good attendance for the children’s 1km fun run and the open class 5km run.

The awards presented after the races were as follows: Children's 1km race: 1st place: Elise Fawkes (3.59).

Open 5km race: 1st place and fastest male: Antony Dunn (19.19); Fastest junior male: Dylan Salomon (22.35); Fastest female: Sarah Salomon (24.33); Fastest junior female: Olivia Deakin (33.29).

The money raised from the fun run includes the entrance race fees, donations, the proceeds from the sale of refreshments and the runners’ sponsorship money.

As well as the fun run Mae has been undertaking additional fundraising activities, including a spot the ball competition and additional money will be raised from the annual village scarecrow competition.

A cheque for more than £1,500 is due to be presented to Dementia UK on fete day.

Over the years the fun run has taken place more than £17,000 has been raised spread for a range of charities.

“We are very grateful to everybody that has taken part this year and helped to make these events such a success, in particular to Marbury Park for their repeated support year on year,” said Mr Powlson.
