DAVENHAM were denied by the weather from taking on Upton on Saturday, ceding top spot in Division One to Widnes.

That was bad news for struggling Weaverham, who were on the receiving end of a six-wicket defeat against the promotion-hopefuls.

The Russets ran up 156-9 off 40 overs after being put in at Beaconsfield Road, where James Lewis (38), Rob McMillan (30) and James Bell (29) all made starts.

Danny Naughton took 4-33 for the hosts, supported by Aqib Nawaz (2-29) and Danny Moore (2-21).

Widnes made it to their target with five overs to spare at 158-4, led by captain Chris Kirby (57) with support from Marcus Fourie (57) in a partnership for the second wicket worth 108 runs.

McMillan claimed 2-49 for Weaverham, who have won only one of their opening eight games.

Oulton Park close to within a point of top spot after winning by four wickets at Macclesfield, who they dismissed for 107 after winning the toss.

Skipper Rob Porter (45) was the only batsman to enjoy success against a consistent attack, with Martyn East (3-19), Matt Parkinson (3-23) and Muhammad Kashif (3-24) all contributing.

The Dutchman now has 22 wickets to his name this season.

Opener Danny Leech (44) and captain Pat Roberts (35) steered the men from Little Budworth to victory at 108-6 in 18 overs, putting on 57 runs for the third wicket.

Northwich played out a rain-interrupted draw with second-placed Lindow at Moss Farm in Division Two.

The home team posted 146-9 after being put in, with Mark Walker (55) and Glinoj Cherian (35) their leading scorers.

Alex Matthews took 3-41, supported by Ben Tyler (2-55).

Lindow then reached 67-6 in 20 overs before play ended, Andrew Dufty (3-30) and James Plant (2-31) both making inroads into the visitors’ top-order.

The former also ran out Osman Butt.
