AN eco-group is encouraging the public to show their community spirit during a day of activities later this month.

Transition Northwich has teamed up with Rudheath and Witton Together for the ‘Big Lunch’ event, which will take place at Grozone Community Garden on Saturday, June 17.

Residents are invited to bring a picnic, sample some camp stove cooking and join in a whole host of free activities.

Guests are also urged to bring unwanted items that will be donated to new home. A person powered trailer will be on-hand to do local pick-ups of donations if they are too heavy to carry in.

Anybody with a dysfunctional push bike can bring it along to utilise the skills of Frodsham Bike project and Grozone volunteers.

They will then be able to either take away the fixed bike away or donate it to others.

Guests will be able to have a go at making decorative and useful things from unloved materials.

There will also be music from the Gus Glynn Band, book-making with Creeping Toad, and a chance to enjoy Grozone’s marvellous spaces, from the mud kitchen to bee keeping and growing.

“This really is a community effort,” said Rudheath and Witton Together community worker Katy Sneyd.

“It will be the crowds who come to join in who will make it a special day to remember.

“We are there to serve everybody in the community so do make use of us. It’s a day which is not to be missed.”

On Sunday, June 18, Transition Northwich will host the award-winning documentary, Tomorrow, at Weaver Hall, from 3pm and 5pm.

Transition Northwich aims to help people move away from a life rich in oil to one where oil is in less demand.

Paul Mathias, Transition Northwich co-ordinator, said: “It’s going to be a packed weekend.

“We hope to practically explore how communities can come together to create lives less about new stuff and more about living.”
