TWO Hartford siblings won eight trophies at the Alderley Edge Festival for Speech and Drama.

George Akka, 10, won five trophies for piano, violin, singing, verse speaking and prepared prose, in addition to 4 further prize certificates.

His sister Sophie, 14, won three trophies for violin, singing and drama and four further prize certificates.

Both children, who go to the Grange School in Hartford, were awarded an extremely rare mark of 92 out of 100 for their violin classes, earning them an Outstanding grade.

The 101st Alderley Edge Festival took place earlier this month.

More than 2000 young performers competed in 117 music classes covering all instruments and vocal as well as 51 speech and drama classes, which were held in venues around the village.

There were approximately 200 winners and out of those, 20 were selected to perform in the Festival Finalé concert on Saturday night.

George and Sophie were both chosen to perform their winning violin solo pieces.
