A POPULAR Stretton pub has reopened under a new name following a £1 million refurbishment.

The Hollow Tree in Tarporley Road, which has now been reinvented as a traditional inn, ceased trading in September.

Shortly after it was revealed that it had been acquired by 16 Hospitality, which owns The Swan in Tarporley and The Crown at Goostrey.

A drinks reception was held on Thursday, May 11, to mark the official launch of The Partridge.

While the official launch party was cause for celebration, tributes were paid to a former colleague who died before the pub opened to the public.

Kevin Sanderson, a quantity surveyor who had played a considerable part in restoring The Partridge, died just weeks before the final signage was in place.

Friend and colleague Edward Barlow, managing director of 16 Hospitality, had worked with Kevin since 1996.

Edward paid tribute to Kevin and his family who came along to see the finishing touches and offer their support.

Sue, Kevin’s wife, pulled the first official pint.

Following the launch, Neal Thacker, general manager of The Partridge, has high hopes the pub will become a firm favourite within the community and those travelling further afield.

He said: “I think the location of The Partridge itself is unbeatable.

“It’s the perfect pit stop for people travelling from East to West or North to South, or vice versa, but it’s also much needed for the local community.

“The area is crying out for a pub like The Partridge which offers tasty, wholesome dishes, using the best local suppliers, right on our doorstep.

“It is unusual to see a country pub sitting so close to a major road like the M56, but I think that adds to its charm as locals and visitors alike can relax and enjoy a refreshing drink, a quick snack or hearty meal.”

Neal said the pub has had ‘incredible feedback’ in the short time it has been open.

He said: “We’ve also had a fabulous first weekend with over four hundred people coming through the doors – and that’s before we start telling people we’re open.

“I really hope we’ve created a place for everyone to come and eat, drink and relax in lovely surroundings with friendly staff.

"That’s all that matters.”
