WEAVERHAM ended a wait to win a first league match of the campaign by halting Bollington’s momentum at the weekend.

The Russets ran up 166-4 in 39 overs of a contest cut short by rain earlier in the day, with Alex Nash (67) and Aussie Cohen McElroy (36) adding 73 runs for the second wicket.

For Bolly, Stuart Plant took 2-35.

The home team, victors in three of their previous four Division One Matches, were sent back for 157 in their reply.

Russ Walker (3-28) claimed the prize wicket of danger man Nathan Edgar (84), who was eighth man out.

George McCormick (3-29) and Rob McMillan (3-36) chipped in too.

Davenham continue to impress, and rise to second in the same section following a five-wicket win against struggling Sale at Butcher’s Stile.

Robin Taylor (4-40) led their bowling attack, supported by Ben Gough (2-29) and Stephen Bliss (2-27), as they dismissed the visitors for 131.

Skipper Dan Hancock ran out leading scorer Jeremy McFarlane (69).

Sam Hunt (46) was the pick of Davenham’s batsmen, while contributions from Peter Gallichan (27) and Gough (24) helped them to a third league win.

There was a close finish to Oulton Park’s meeting with Marple at Little Budworth, where the home team had scored 159-8.

Ben Kettle scored 37 after being promoted from the seconds, while Jack Grundy (3-18) and Paul Wood (3-58) impressed with the ball.

The latter (62 off 74 balls) was in fine form at the crease as his side fell narrowly short on 156-7, kept in check by Oulton Park’s Dutch international Muhammad Kashif (3-44).

Northwich lost by four wickets at home to Stockport in Division Two, leaving them without a win in five attempts.

The visitors put in their hosts, then bowled them out for 109 with only Mark Walker (32) and opener Luke Tapsfield (28) reaching double figures as Alex Barber (3-20) and Mark Green (3-32) both shone.

Skipper Sam Edwards (30no) saw Stockport over the line at 114-6 despite the best efforts of spin pair Mohammed Ajmal (3-14) and Andy Dufty (3-40).
