ALISTAIR Stanway led Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s contingent during a 25-mile time trial on Saturday.

He stopped the clock in 57.10, an average speed of 26.24mph, in the Manchester and District Time Trial Association Championship.

Dave Fearon was next among his teammates, timing 59.15 after riding a fixed gear, while novices Craig Sephton (1:02.15), Ben Jones (1:04.01) – in his first open 25 – and Dan Robson (1:06.05) were in action too.

Colin Carthy returned from warm-weather training in Majorca to post 1:03.27, while Chris Gilbertson finished in 1:03.10.

Caroline Fearon completed a first time trial over the distance since sustaining a foot injury last year, posting 1:15.11.

Adam Robinson (Vision Racing) topped the overall time-sheet in 52.36, pipping 2016 winner Dave Crawley by just four seconds.

Weaver Valley’s 10-mile evening time trial series had started in midweek, when 20 riders took part.

Dave Fearon was fastest in 23.08, with Emily Martin leading the females in the field in 27.27.

Rounds take place every Wednesday, when riders meet in the car park at Shakerley Mere from 6.30pm.

Rower Matthew Langridge, a gold-medallist for Great Britain at last year’s Olympic Games, celebrated a maiden race victory last Tuesday.

The Northwich rider was first to the finish following a sprint finish in the third round of the Dave Astles Memorial Road Race Series at Lower Withington, pipping Paul Gibson (Warrington Road Club) to overall honours in his age category.

Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s Matt Ellis finished in the bunch.

Kevan Underhill was fifth among the men aged over 55, trailing winner Roy Holmes (Bott Cycle Team).

In-form Jim Duffy took third in the men’s over 45s class after keeping pace with rivals that made a break, while Simon Bridge (Manchester Bicycle Club) ranked first.

Mark Adshead followed them over the line in the bunch.
