TATA Chemicals Europe said today that its plant at Lostock Gralam was back online following a ‘minor fire’ on Friday.

Firefighters attended the plant at Works Lane at 8.10am to tackle a fire in a third-floor extraction system.

Fire engines from Northwich, Knutsford, Winsford and Middlewich attended, and left the incident at 1.30pm.

A Tata Chemicals Europe spokesman said today: "Following a minor fire in an ancillary plant on Friday, Tata Chemicals Europe electrical engineering teams have completed precautionary safety checks on power and control cables which were isolated on Friday in line with site safety procedures.

“These checks have been completed and the plant is now back online.”

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Two hose reel were in use and the premises was evacuated while the incident was dealt with.

“The fire was on the third floor in an industrial building which is constructed over five floors.

“The fire was contained to an extraction system and crews worked with on-site maintenance staff to deal with the incident. Fire engines left the scene at 1.24pm.”
