BARNTON needed only 17 overs to despatch out-of-sorts Middlewich, ending their wait for a first league win of the campaign.

Dan Gilbert (4-36) and Neil Langham (2-43) were successful early in the visitors’ innings, both bowling their allocated overs unchanged.

Sam Brothers (32no) struck six boundaries during a late cameo, but captain Simon Hancock (2-9) and Andy Leese (2-12) ensured he ran out of support.

Needing 107 to win, openers Jack Whalley (52 off 32 balls) and Callum Doyle (38no) were in no mood to hang around.

The former struck five fours and four maximums as they cruised to victory.

Kingsley lead the way in Division Two after recording their biggest margin of victory in a one-sided encounter with Heaton Mersey.

Ben Stoddart (78) and Harris Yassin (63), who celebrated a maiden half-century for the first team, were the outstanding individual performaners during an innings that closed on 267-7 declared.

Captain Toby Mullins (31), Hayden Lanza (29no) and Ed Leneghan (28 off 14 balls) increased the total late on.

Adrian Burden (5-22) again propelled the men from the Croft to victory with a third five-wicket haul of the campaign, increasing his tally during 2017 to 18 as the visitors succumbed for 80 after tea.

Mullins said: “It was another exciting performance with bat and ball.

“That’s the highest number of runs we’ve scored in a game since I’ve been captain, but we took important catches as well to seal victory.”

Winnington Park’s positive start ended when they lost by six wickets at Woodford.

The home team totalled 222-4 after winning the toss, with Rishad Ali (2-41) proving the most effective with the ball.

In reply, the men from the Rec crumbled to 92 all out.

"We worked hard in the field but we didn't apply ourselves with the bat,” reflected skipper Alec Butcher.

“We’ve made more than 180 in our both of our previous games this season, so that’s disappointing."

Returning Mike Dean made the difference for Winsford as they eased to a nine-wicket win at Audlem in Division Four.

He took 4-22 from a dozen overs, helping dismiss the home team for 112.

David Bates (59no) and Devon Hughes (20) put on 61 for the first wicket before Mike Dickenson (28no) joined the former to take their side to victory in the 19th over.

In Division Five, Hartford played out a high-scoring draw with Heaton Mersey Village.

Opener Rob Whittle (97) and Martin Pickup (54) shared in a 124-run partnership for the second wicket as the hosts posted 245-4 before declaring at Grange Park.

The visitors ran out of time to clinch an unlikely victory, closing a single run short on 244-8.

Whittle (4-69), supported by Gopal Raju (3-85), was the most successful bowler.
