OULTON Park are one of only two teams with an unblemished record after the first fortnight of the campaign in Cheshire County League Division One.

Their batting strength was again evident during a four-wicket win against Upton at Little Budworth.

Set a target of 218 to win, they made it there in just 35 overs after opener Martyn East (89) had set them on course to victory.

Callum Begg (32), captain Pat Roberts (32no) and Craig Douglas (34no) contributed too.

The visitors had run up a handy 217 after being put in.

Chris McArthur (90) put on 61 runs for the first wicket with Chris Stowell-Smith (27) before adding 86 for the second in a partnership with Matthew Smith (21).

Muhammad Kashif (4-40) was the pick of the home team’s bowlers, with Douglas (2-38) and Owen Williamson (2-23) providing support.

Urmston racked up the biggest total at Weaverham, but it was not enough to secure a victory.

Sumit Panda (156 off 106 balls) was in destructive mood, hitting 14 fours and 10 sixes, as they reached 336-4 after winning the toss.

That included a 209-run stand for the third wicket with opener Furkan Hassan (104).

Kevin Douglas and George McCormick shared the wickets to fall.

The Russets settled for a draw at 201-2, led by Australian newcomer Cohen McElroy (74) in an unbroken 120-run partnership with captain Ian Eaton (47no).

Russ Walker (42) and Jake Lightfoot put on 54 at the top of the order.

Davenham, conquerors of Weaverham seven days earlier, had the better of a draw with Widnes.

They totted up 226-6 batting first, with new recruit Peter Gallichan run out for 89, including 14 boundaries, in a 101-run stand with opener James Loveridge (62) for the second wicket.

Sam Hunt added 37 quickly too, while Danny Moor (3-48) made the biggest impact with the ball.

Widnes claimed a share of the spoils at 179-6, with knocks from Matt Burns (50) and Ben Hewitt (45) providing the highlights.

Davenham’s Robin Taylor took 2-35.

Newcomers Romiley, beaten heavily by Stockport on their Division Two debut, recorded a first county league victory when they beat Northwich by four wickets.

They sent back Mark Walker’s men for 150.

Gladwin Cherian (43) and Mohammad Ajmal (37) top-scored for the visitors, while Mark Flattley (3-12) and overseas Mohan D’Souza (3-31) combined to do the damage.

The home team ran up 151-6 after tea, opener Tom Rolph (43) and David Badrock (34) giving their reply momentum with a 90-run partnership for the second wicket.

Spinner Andy Dufty (4-26) was the best of the visitors’ bowlers, dismissing the former with a fine caught and bowled.
