TATTON Lib Dems are vowing to fight against Esther McVey’s ‘hard Brexit’ stance in June’s General Election.

The group is campaigning to keep Britain in the single market, which it claims will protect jobs at major employers in the area, while the former Wirral West MP is a staunch Brexiteer.

It has also slammed Ms McVey’s ‘abysmal’ voting record, after she helped to push through the Government’s ‘bedroom tax’ and cuts to disability benefits.

Lib Dem candidate Gareth Wilson, of Mobberley, is now calling on Tatton voters to reject Ms McVey’s challenge – and instead choose a candidate from the area.

“This is yet another parachuted-in Tory with no connection to the constituency - and a prominent leave campaigner to boot,” he said.

“How can she have any experience of the problems with local services if she doesn't live here?

“This is clearly Theresa May attempting to shore-up support for her ideological hard Brexit in the next parliament.

“I hope the 56 per cent who voted remain in Tatton will vote for a candidate that will fight May's plans to leave the single market rather than one who endorses it.”

Mr Wilson is promising voters he will oppose a ‘hard Brexit’, fight against the national funding formula for schools, protect Macclesfield Hospital and its Millbrook Unit, and campaign against fracking.
