HUNDREDS of families flocked to Memorial Court on Saturday for the first Northwich Comic Con.

Lots of characters were on show in and around Memorial Court, from Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers to Spiderman and the Joker.

TTC Toy Fairs, which hosts several events in the north west, hopes to make the show an annual event.

“It went very well,” said Steve Howard, from TTC Toy Fairs.

“I think people appreciated it for what it was and other people were surprised, a lot of people had never been to one before.

“People were particularly impressed with the characters. Hulkbuster and Bumblebee were favourites.”

Lots of fans, young and old, dressed up for the event and prizes were given for the best costumes.

Several special guests attended the event and talks were held throughout the day.

A number of stalls sold various pop culture art and memorabilia inside the main hall.

Steve said the traders have already expressed interest to return.

There were a couple of disappointments on the day.

Cars from the Fast and the Furious film franchise were due to make an appearance but got stuck in traffic on the motorway and had to cancel.

Lightning McQueen from Pixar’s Cars also had to pull out after it was involved in a minor accident the night before.

Actress Zara Phythian, who appeared in Marvel’s Dr Strange, also pulled out of the event due to filming commitments.

Despite this, Steve said he has received great feedback from the public, particularly with those who had never attended a similar event.

Steve said Northwich Comic Con will ‘definitely’ return to Northwich in 2018.

He also revealed he intends to bring the event back in 2017, likely around October time.

“We are considering a part two in Northwich,” Steve said. “We will definitely be coming back next year, without a doubt. I’m 99 per cent certain it will be on the same weekend next year.

“All in all there wasn’t much we would do differently next time. Everything seemed to click.”
