CHILDREN have set sail on a new adventure at The Grange School.

In October 2015 Junior School prep school council representatives put forward the idea of additional apparatus for the prep 1 and 2 playground for the children to play on – and the idea of a pirate ship was born.

The school council developed the idea over a number of meetings, met with the estates manager to discuss various options and fine-tuned its ideas.

The council then approached the school’s Parents’ Association to help fund the project, and was delighted when it agreed to support the project.

The ideas for the various elements, such as the cannons, the acorn instead of a figurehead and the ‘walk the plank’ came from the children, and a designer from Flights of Fantasy Ltd pulled it all together.

The installation of the final design began in October, and the school decided to wait until the spring to officially ‘launch’ the ship with members of the Parents’ Association and to allow the school to thank the association for its support and to recognise the work of the school council.
