MATTHEW Carney’s superb image of the Round Tower in Sandiway was picture perfect for the judges.

Matthew’s picture was January’s winner of Visit Northwich’s Photo of the Month competition.

“The first monthly competition of 2017 was, filled with a range of beautiful images showcasing Northwich’s landscapes, waterways and industry,” said a Visit Northwich spokesman.

“There were also some really unique images depicting winter and the contrast between urban areas and countryside.

“However there could only be one winner, and Matthew Carney’s amazing photograph of the Round Tower in Sandiway emerged as the victor.

“The snap, which was taken at night, uses long exposure and creates an amazing light trail effect from all the cars passing by.

“It’s completely different to previous winners and although not a landmark within the town of Northwich, its history and significance to Mid Cheshire can’t be understated as it used to be a Gatehouse for Vale Royal Abbey in Whitegate.”

This month’s competition is now live so if you’d like to enter, simply head to the POTM page on the Visit Northwich website or upload your image to Twitter or Instagram along with the hashtag #NorthwichPOTM.
